Learning To Lead Strategic Planning

A Workshop for Leaders of Privately Held Businesses
More Information

During this fast-paced, upbeat, enjoyable professional development workshop you and participants from other businesses will invest three hours (9:00 to noon) to learn:

  • The five-phase Growth Management River Trip℠ process, customer-focused strategic planning, simplified.

  • How to lead your business leadership team from issues to objectives to action plans that will get implemented.

  • Dynamic mind-mapping, a visual process for participants to write our their ideas before sharing them with team members, then summarizing their group discussions and decisions.

  • We often use business examples from our experience guiding strategic planning in more than 40 industries to illustrate the five River Trip phases.

These learning tracks are interwoven into the following workshop agenda:

Introductions & Ground Rules – Agreements to honor confidentiality, no recording or AI notetaking, (cameras on for online workshops), without exception.

Orientation to the River Trip℠ planning process model, the river trip metaphor, who should participate and options for quick or more thorough timing.

Mind Mapping and options for visual decision capture.

DESCRIBE the Relevant Environment (the first planning phase) - The primary agenda topic is a confidential discussion of the “Crossroads Issues” which your and other like organizations face, especially those related to customers and profitability.

We then explore the other four phases using a process map for each phase, in the same sequence that they are used. We address the purpose, key questions to initiate discussion, design of the visual template, a typical meeting agenda and next steps which link to the following process. The four other phases are:

  • CONCLUDE About Our Situation

  • COMMIT To A Future Direction

  • CREATE Action Plans

  • INTEGRATE With Operations

Monitoring Progress – Strategic and operational measures and leading indicators.

River Trip Materials – Ordering, pricing and lead times for meeting materials.

Follow Up Benefits – Your fee-free four-month subscription to an online guided forum for workshop graduates which is scheduled every four to six weeks.

The workshop takes three hours, with a 10-minute break about halfway through. All participants receive a 24-page participant kit which includes orientation materials,  process leadership tips and five meeting agendas.
