Learning To Lead Strategic Planning

Powerful Online Professional Development Workshops

For Not-for-Profit Organizations

We are blessed with such a rich fabric of not-for-profit organizations in our economy. They fulfill important missions in all facets of society. There are classic charities, grant-making and community foundations, athletic and industry support groups, environmental networks, fee-for-services research teams, professional development, recreation, educational and religious groups.

As a not-for-profit leader, board member or consultant, you will learn a simple, collaborative approach for evolving services to better meet the needs of your constituents, and how to develop more confident funding for your national, regional or local not-for-profit organization.

Management Team Private Workshop Agenda

There are tremendous synergies when everyone on the senior team uses a simple, common planning model, because the same approach can be used for strategy implementation teams, within all departments and for work groups. Involving board members in the planning will broaden their understanding of your work and deepen their commitment to the organization.

  • Before the three-hour workshop, we’ll send a participant kit for each member of the planning team, including an orientation guide, five visual process maps with recommended meeting agendas and quick-start instructions. No preparation is required.

  • Your team can be gathered in the same large-screen video conference room, on their own laptops or a hybrid of both. Maximum twelve participants.

  • Initially, we’ll discuss your current approach to growth planning and offer an overview of our model which significantly simplifies planning and guides a senior team from issues through strategic objectives, action plans and budgeting.

  • The first planning process on the agenda is a confidential discussion of , especially those related to your constituents. Notes from this process can be used to jump-start your River TripSM planning later on, whenever it is scheduled.

  • The next four process discussions and decision examples actually use the Crossroads Issues you’ve identified as a case study. You won’t develop a full strategic plan by any means, but it’s great learning because the content is relevant to the issues you are facing as a planning team.

  • Finally, we discuss how to get planning started, convening a core planning team, the coordinator’s role and a few meeting facilitation tips.

  • $3,000 fee. A 10% non-refundable deposit, payable by credit card, will hold the date. Participant kits and a balance due invoice will be sent two weeks prior to the workshop.

Public Workshops Agenda

The same agenda is used for public workshops, with these exceptions:

  • Because participants may work at different organizations, we’ll use a third-party case study rather than a participant’s organization for the five process examples.

  • There is time available to address questions about specific planning situations that each participant is likely to encounter.

  • Participants who are external or internal consultants may decide to schedule a follow up call to discuss how the River TripSM approach can be added to their portfolio of client services.

  • $650 fee per participant. The fee is non-refundable, but can be used for a different workshop date with 10-day notice.
